Actress Shilpa Shetty has moved the Bombay High Court to seek protection of her personality rights. This will put a stop to all the platforms illegally commercialising the Bollywood actress’s image. These will include unauthorised use of her images and videos. Any deepfakes of Shilpa morphed using Artificial Intelligence (AI), whether it is images or her voice, being used by people to earn profit will be protected under this right. Let us dive in to find out more about these personality rights and the plea filed by actress Shilpa Shetty!
Under these personality rights, an individual has the right to protect his/her personality under the right to privacy or property. While anyone can claim them with solid justification, mostly celebrities are seen claiming this. It is easier to use a celebrity’s fame as their name, photographs, or even voices can easily be illegally misused for advertisements and for promotions of different companies to boost their sales. These renowned personalities are now registering their names to save their personality rights and prevent the misuse of their likeness.
