  • 1/2 big sweet potato or shakkarkandi
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 tsp rice powder
  • 11/2 tsp besan
  • 1/2 big green chilli
  • Salt as per taste
  • Red chilli as per taste
  • 1/4 tsp red chilli
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Few chopped coriander leaves
  • Cooking oil for shallow frying


Step 1
Chop the onions, green chillies and coriander and keep aside.
Step 2
Chop the thoroughly washed sweet potato into big chunks and then pressure cook it for 4 whistles.
Step 3
Now peel them off and mash, making sure there are no lumps.
Step 4
In the same bowl of mashed poatto, add the chopped veges along wth salt, besan, red chilli and turmeric powder. Mix well and make a batter.
Step 5
Now, take lemon size quantity of it and make pedas like we do for rotis.
Step 6
Heat a pan with some oil for shallow fry and slide in the mashed potato pedas.
Step 7
Cook until brown on both sides and then place them on a blotting paper to drain the oil.
Step 8
Serve with chutney and chai.
