Mysore Pak Recipe: Know How To Make Shilpa Shetty’s Most Favourite Dessert

Mysore Pak or Mysuru Paaka is a traditional sweet of Karnataka which is a quintessential sweet of south India that everybody loves. In her Sunday binge sessions, Shilpa Shetty has called it one of her most favourite desserts and why not? It’s origins lie in the pages of history with first recorded evidence of it being prepared in the kitchens of the Mysore Palace during the reign of Krishna Raja Wadiyar IV. Made by his palace cook named Kakasura Madappa, the Pak in the name stands for the sticky sugar syrup, preparing which is a secret art! But modern-day Mysore Pak is a piece of sinful delight that’s so easy to make but its taste is not so easy to forget. So what are you waiting for? Just whip up a few ingredients needed to make this rich dessert and have an ultimate foodgasm at your home!

Ingredients Needed To Make Mysore Pak

  • Sugar: 2 cups
  • Baking soda: 1 pinch
  • Gram flour (besan): 1 cup
  • Ghee: 3 cups
  • Water: 1 cup

Method Of Preparation

  • Heat a pan and add a cup of ghee to it. Keep this on a medium flame and when the ghee becomes hot, start adding the besan to it. Buy Nutritionist Dr Reema Rao's Organik Tree Besan here for Rs 195 only).
  • Fry the besan properly for a few minutes ensuring that it doesn’t get burnt but the raw smell goes away.
  • Take another pan and boil water with the sugar in it till it has string-like consistency. (Buy Dhampure Speciality Sulphurless Sugar here at an offer price of Rs 115)
  • Now add the fried besan to this and keep stirring till it gets thickened. 
  • Heat the rest of the ghee and add the besan mixture to it, taking care that there are no lumps. (A pack of aromatic Patanjali Cow's Ghee is available here for Rs 500. Try it!)
  • When the ghee starts to separate from the sides of the pan, add the cooking soda to this.
  • Grease a plate and pour this mixture on it. Spread it and let it cool at room temperature. As it starts to harden, cut it into the desired shapes. 

Your Mysore Pak is ready!

Note: You can keep this dessert in an airtight container and it can stay fresh for a 1 week to 10 days at room temperature!
