Step 1. Start by taking 2 medium-sized potatoes. Boil them in a pot, cover them with water, and add a pinch of salt. Bring the water to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender, which usually takes about 15-20 minutes. 

Step 2. Once they are cooled down, peel them, and using a fork or a potato masher, mash the potatoes coarsely. Place the mashed potatoes in a large bowl. 

Step 3. To the mashed potatoes, add finely chopped onion, chopped green chilies, chopped garlic, coriander leaves. Drizzle in 1-2 tablespoons of mustard oil and the juice of half a lemon for flavour. 

Step 4. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure the spices are evenly distributed throughout the mashed potatoes. Taste the mixture and adjust the spices accordingly. 

Step 5. Serve your Aloo Chokha with hot rice.

Ingredients

  • 2-3 medium potatoes
  • 2 tablespoons mustard oil
  • 1 medium chopped onion
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • 2 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
  • 2-3 chopped green chillies
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Salt to taste

    Boil 2 medium-sized potatoes in salted water for 15-20 minutes until tender. Once cooled, peel and coarsely mash the potatoes in a large bowl.

    Add finely chopped onion, green chilies, garlic, coriander leaves, 1-2 tablespoons of mustard oil, and the juice of half a lemon. Mix everything thoroughly to ensure the spices are well combined.
