With this season brimming with plums or 'aloo bukhara', we are all set to make, bake and stir some tasty dishes and drinks using this fruit which is super sweet and highly nutritious. Let's begin with a plum chutney recipe for sweet souls around us. It is easy to make and really scrumptious. So let's get started.

If you are wondering about the benefits of plum then we would like you to know that this fruit is the boss when it comes to being a carrier of vitamins and minerals! It is low in calories, has vitamin A, C, K, has copper and potassium, manganese and copper. They are also super rich in antioxidants, which help us in reducing inflammation and protecting our cells from damage by free radicals. Another factor that we love about plums is that it may control blood sugar level, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Ingredients  

  • 1 kg chopped plums 
  • 1/8 tsp cinnamon
  • 4 cloves
  • 2 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp chilli powder
  • 2 tbsp vinegar
  • 250 gram sugar

 

Method

  • Place plums in a glass or steel vessel and cover with water. Leave overnight.
  • Next, rub the mixture and remove seeds.
  • Add sugar, salt, chilli powder and cinnamon and cloves and heat over low heat, stirring all the time to dissolve the sugar. Do not skip on cinnamon as it adds to the lovely fragrance and several health benefits as well.
  • Increase the heat and bring to a boil and let cook till thick.

  • Add the vinegar and leave it on simmer for 5 minutes.

     

  • When cool, pack in a glass jar and store.
