With Ahoi Puja today, we are starting off with the Diwali week celebrations. This puja is incomplete without some hot malpuas and halwa as prasad. Malpua is specially prepared on this day. These hot pancakes are dipped in sugar syrup and served with suji halwa. 

Celebrations are always incomplete without sweets and malpua is one traditional sweet that is loved by all. The delicious combination of saffron, milk and sugar is a true treat to our taste buds.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Suji or semolina
  • 1/2 tsp Fennel Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Cardamom Powder
  • 1/4 tsp Baking Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Powdered Sugar
  • milk to prepare batter
  • saffron
  • cardamom
  • water
  • 1/2 cup maida

Step

  1. Step 1:

    In a pan, add water, add kesar strands and cardamom seeds.

  2. Step 2:

    Cook till you get a syrup like consistency. Take off flame.

  3. Step 3:

    Take half cup of milk in a bowl and add maida. Mix well to make a smooth paste.

  4. Step 4:

    Now add sugar, fennel seeds or powder and baking powder. Mix to combine all ingredients.

  5. Step 5:

    Now add milk to make the batter.

  6. Step 6:

    On a non stick pan, add some ghee. Using a spoon, spread malpua batter. Cook on both sides.

  7. Step 7:

    Remove from ghee and dip in the sugar syrup for 1 minute.

  8. Step 8:

    Serve hot with halwa or rabri.
