Rohtang Pass, Leh

The direct meaning of the word ‘Rohtang’ is  'Pile of Corpses', which is enough to give you an idea about the road. The driveway is famous amongst bikers, as large groups of them bike their way all the way till here. With snowclad mountains as far as the vision goes, the beauty of this place increases many folds in winters. The weather which makes the experience beautiful also makes the drive dangerous, as there is always a chance of landslides. Be very vigilant while on the road and look out for rocks falling from the mountains above. 

Khardungla Pass, Ladakh

Also known as the highest motorable road in the world, Khardungla Pass is situated at a whopping 5,602 meters above sea level. With snow clad mountains in winter months, weather remains mostly unpredictable here. Located in the Karakoram Range, the view of nature is breathtaking. As the road is narrow and difficult to drive on, there are special timings allotted to the cars and motorbikes to pass through. Leh to Khardung La, timings are 9 AM to 1 PM and for Khardung La to Leh it is 1 PM to 5 PM. 

NH 22 Kinnaur Road, Kinnaur

Hairpin bends, overhanging rocks and narrow roads is what NH 22 road is widely known for. Many people have lost their lives here, either in an accident or by falling in the Baspa river which flows below. The scenic view around might paint a happy picture for you but driving here is an absolute test of your skills.

Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

The driveway might be treat for the eyes but the difficult roads are a real challenge. Spiti valley is famous amongst bikers, who like to indulge in adventure of all sorts. Running alongside the river Satluj, the road is lined with beautiful apricot and apple trees. The road is known for being slippery and causing trouble while driving upwards. Make sure you drive at a low speed and maintain a fair amount of distance from the vehicle in front of you.

Nathula Pass, Sikkim

If you are someone who gets motion sickness very soon, then this is not the road for you. With its zig-zag pathway, the road is nothing less than a rollercoaster. The length of the road is 54 kms and near Tsomgo Lake, Sikkim. The route is prone to landslides and snowfall, which causes a lot of trouble for the bikers who visit here quite often. 

Zoji La Pass, Ladakh

With scrunchy roads and rocks falling down at every bend, Zoji La Pass will keep you on your toes throughout the drive. Situated at an elevation of 3,538 meters above sea level, passing through this 9 km long road is no child’s play. Though the mountain view surrounding the driveway is stunning, you need to be really careful while driving through this rough patch.
