From its bustling bazaars to delectable food, everything in Amritsar is worth experiencing. Amritsar is one place that will make you come back again and again. I recently visited this beautiful city and would like to share with you that there are a few things that you shouldn't miss while you visit this place. If you are planning to visit Amritsar anytime soon then here are some things you should definitely do:
Shop Phulkari
Phulkari that also means flower work is really popular in the Punjab region. Amritsar being the heart of Punjab is a great place for you to shop for it! You just can’t leave Amritsar without shopping for phulkari. As you enter the markets of Amritsar, you will find phulkari dupattas at every nook. There are thousands of colours and patterns available. The Golden Temple Plaza, just near the Golden Temple is the biggest marketplace of the city and it is best to shop there for your phulkari. Don’t forget to bargain. Phulkari’s price ranges between INR 300 and goes up to INR 10,000.
Take Home Punjabi Juttis
Punjabis complete their overall look with juttis and what better than buying a pair of jutti from Amritsar itself. Juttis give you a traditional Punjabi look. These too, are available in tons of designs and patterns. When I asked my hotel reception to guide me to the best jutti shop in Amritsar, they straight away asked their driver to take me to Raunak Juttis. This shop is really famous for their juttis. They have a great collection of juttis, from casual ones to bridal ones. They have ghungroo and phulkari juttis too.
Take Blessings At Golden Temple
The moment I walked down the stairs at the Golden Temple, I could feel an air of calmness. There is something really unusual about this place. Sit by the sarovar and listen to the ‘paath’ for an extraordinary experience. Nothing can beat the delicious Kada Prasad that you will receive as you exit the temple. Also, do enjoy the experience of having langar at the Gurudwara that is prepared for all by thousands of volunteers.
