Ekta Kapoor made history today by becoming the first Indian to bag an Emmy Directorate Award. After years of immense hard work, she has finally made not only India but womanhood proud with her victory.
The 51st International Emmy Awards' World Television Festival 2023 was held in New York, on November 20 (November 21 in India Standard Time).
A director and producer who started working at the age of 17 and has bagged several Indian titles for her appealing work, Ekta Kapoor has rewritten history with her skills. The Padma Shree Awardee has once again made her fans and the entire nation proud by becoming the first Indian to win the title of Emmy Directorate Award.
Ekta Kapoor, who is highly known for her engaging TV serials and has now even moved towards film production, won the prestigious award for her exceptional work in television and OTT. She started her production house Balaji Telefilms in 1994. Despite facing many rejections early or in her career, she gained success in her early 20s with her TV serial ‘Hum Paanch’.

India has been made proud by not receiving one but two significant Emmy award titles this year as Vir Das brings home an award too. The comedian cum actor, Vir Das bagged the title of International Emmy for Comedy for his special ‘Vir Das: Landing’. He shared the win along with ‘Derry Girls Season 3’.

Apart from his contribution to the field of comedy, Vir Das has been seen in Bollywood films like ‘Go Goa Gone’, ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and ‘Delhi Belly’.

India is beaming with pride today as artists like Ekta Kapoor and Vir Das win the titles at the prestigious Emmy Awards. Other than them, there were two more nominations for the awards - Shefali Shah was nominated for the best actress title for her crime drama ‘Delhi Crime’ and Jim Sarbh for best actor for his role as Homi J Bhabha ‘Rocky Boys’.
