If you’ve ever travelled on the Vande Bharat Express, you know it’s an entirely different experience compared to regular trains. The Vande Bharat, with its sleek design and high-speed features, has quickly become the pride of Indian railways. But when booking tickets, passengers are often confused between two popular seating options: CC (Chair Car) and EC (Executive Chair Car). According to the official Press Information Bureau (PIB) portal, it states that, “As an excellent example of the ‘Make in India’ success story, the Indian Railways launched India’s first indigenous semi-high-speed train, Vande Bharat Express. It has become a symbol of India’s aspirations for modern, efficient, and comfortable rail travel.”
Both offer comfort and convenience, but there are some key differences. So, which one should you choose? Let's take a look at the main differences that can help you choose which one to pick for your next trip:
The Chair Car (CC) is typically chosen by passengers for shorter trips, offering a comfortable ride without the extra luxuries.
The Executive Chair Car (EC) is the premium class of accommodation in the Vande Bharat Express train. It offers more space, luxury, and enhanced services.
The most obvious difference between the CC and EC lies in the level of seating comfort. The Executive Chair Car (EC) is designed to provide a luxurious experience with larger, more spacious seats that recline further back compared to the CC. The headrests are more comfortable, and the overall feel of the seat is premium.

In contrast, the Chair Car (CC) offers basic cushioned seats, which are more compact than those in the EC. However, they are still designed to ensure a smooth and comfortable journey, especially for short to medium-distance travel.
The Executive Chair Car (EC) costs more than the Chair Car (CC), with extra comfort, premium seats, and additional amenities reflecting the higher price. The price difference ranges between 50-60%, depending on the route and specific train.
And, here is my return journey on Executive Class(EC) which is the premium class on Vande Bharat Express. While leg spaces in Chair Car was better, it’s superb in EC.

When it comes to amenities, the Executive Chair Car (EC) offers a more elevated experience. Passengers in the EC enjoy personalised services, such as additional luggage space, better onboard food options, and fast service. The interiors are designed to cater to those seeking a more premium experience.
The Chair Car (CC), while still offering a comfortable ride, comes with fewer extras. The food options may be simpler, and the seats are basic, with large windows offering panoramic views.

While the seating arrangement in the Chair Car (CC) is efficient, the Executive Chair Car (EC) offers more room with extra leg space. The ambiance in EC is also more peaceful and upscale, making it ideal for long journeys.
In contrast, the Chair Car (CC) offers standard leg space and a more casual ambiance. With more seats in the same area, it may make it feel a bit more crowded, especially during peak travel times, making it good for short trips.

The decision between CC and EC comes down to what you value most in your travel experience. If you’re on a tight budget or simply need a functional, comfortable ride, the Chair Car (CC) is a good option.
However, if you’re looking for a more luxurious, spacious ride, or if you want a higher level of service and comfort, the Executive Chair Car (EC) is the way to go.
