In 1971, the International Dairy Federation (IDF) organised the first World Milk Festival to educate individuals on the vitality of milk. After the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) declared milk to be an essential food in 1984, countries globally started celebrating Milk Day on national levels. In 2001, FAO officially coined the World Milk Day.
