As per the Hindu Calendar, this year Diwali is celebrated on 12th November, Sunday. On this auspicious occasion, Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha are worshipped together. It is believed that whosoever worships Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha together with full devotion on Diwali, there is never any dearth of prosperity in his life nor does he ever face any financial crisis. Along with Maa Lakshmi and Lord Ganesha, Maa Saraswati, Maa Kali and Lord of Wealth Kuber Dev are also worshipped on Diwali. It is noteworthy that for every puja goddess Lakshmi is present with Lord Vishnu but for Diwali Shri Hari is not worshipped with Maa Lakshmi. Diwali Falls During Chaturmas

Diwali falls during Chaturmas which is one of the major reasons why lord Vishnu is not worshipped with Maa Lakshmi. Chaturmas is the period when Lord Vishnu goes under Yoga Nidra (deep sleep) and resides in the underworld. Thus, religious activities are prohibited during Chaturmas and his absence is naturally considered. Due to this reason, there is a tradition of worshipping the first revered god Shri Ganesha instead of Lord Vishnu along with Maa Lakshmi on Diwali (laddu gopal shringaar on diwali).

Mother Lakshmi Wanders Alone At Diwali Night

As per Hindu tradition, it is believed that the goddess Lakshmi wanders alone in the universe and bestows her blessings on the devotees. It is believed that during four months, Lord Vishnu takes rest from his duties and he is not disturbed by involving him in any of the affairs. However, Lord Vishnu wakes up from his Yoga Nidra on the day of Kartik Purnima and takes his place in his adobe beside Maa Lakshmi. All the religious activities are resumed on Devuthani Ekadashi. To mark the re-establishment of Lord Vishnu, Dev Deepawali (diwali puja don'ts) is celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm. Temples are decorated and several dishes are prepared to welcome Lord Vishnu.
