You can be anyone but if you are a woman and a part of Indian politics, you never know when, where you get 'objectified', face sexism. We hardly see any male politician subjected to something similar. That is the state of women politicians in India. Looks like sexism is a norm in Indian politics. The way it is getting worse each year, no wonder, we may lose on all the female politicians of the country. Let's have a look at some sexist remarks on women politicians in India.

"You should also accept Sapna the way your father had accepted your mother"

The newest among all is the one given by BJP MLA Surendra Singh. He compared dancer Sapna Chaudhary to former Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi. He said Rahul should marry Chaudhary as he will be happy that both his mother and wife are from the same "profession". In his interview to a news agency, MLA Surendra, addressing Rahul Gandhi said, Addressing Rahul Gandhi, he said "You should also accept Sapna the way your father had accepted your mother" ("Rahul ji ki Mata ji bhi Italy mein isi peshe se thi. For this sexist comment, the MLA is drawing a lot of flak over social media. But well, this is not the first time that he has made a comment like this one. Last year, when he tried to defend the accused in Unnao rape case, he said, “I am speaking from psychological point of view; no one can rape a mother of three children. It is not possible, this is a conspiracy against him (Sengar).”

BJP MLA Surendra Narayan Singh made a sexist remark against BSP president Mayawati recently. He said, “Mayawati gets facial done every day. She has no right to say anything about our leaders. Her hair have turned grey but she colours them to look young. She has turned 60 but still her hair are black."

In the year 2015, when JDU Chief made a sexist remark on the skin colour of South Indian women and remained unapologetic about it. When he was interrupted by then HRD minister Smriti Irani for not making such comments on women. He went on to saying, “I know what you are.”

In the year 2013, former CM Digvijaya Singh compared Arvind Kejriwal to actress Rakhi Sawant. He said, "Arvind Kejriwal is like Rakhi Sawant. They both try and expose, but with no substance."

On Priyanka Gandhi's entry into Politics, BJP Member of Parliament Harish Dwivedi told a news agency, “Rahul fail hain toh Priyanka bhi fail hain. Jab Priyanka Gandhi Delhi mein rehti hain toh jeans aur top mein rehti hai aur jab shetra mein aati hain toh saree aur sindoor laga kar aati hain (If Rahul’s failed, so has Priyanka. Another one on Priyanka was by BJP MP a year or so back when he was asked if Priyanka will be able to draw votes for Congress. He said, No, I don’t think that’s a factor. There are so many other more beautiful female campaigners. There are heroines. So many others more beautiful.”

While addressing a rally in Jaipur, Rahul Gandhi rebuked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said, "The Prime Minister with the 56-inch-chest didn't come even once to the people's court - the Parliament. We smashed the Raksha Mantri's speech. 56-inch-chest Prime Minister said to a woman, Sitharaman ji 'protect me', I will not be able to protect myself." Sushma Swaraj slammed him for this sexist remark on Twitter. She wrote, "Rahul Gandhi's comments on Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman's reply to a debate on a subject relating to the Ministry of Defence is a new low in the history of Indian politics."

MP Mulayam Singh Yadav, when he was objecting Women's Reservation Bill in the year 2012 said that it will be of no use to women who belong to the rural areas. He said, "Bade ghar ki ladkiyan aur mahilaaon ko fayda milega. Humari gaon ki gareeb mahilaaon ko nahin. Akarshak nahi hoti... bas itna kahoonga, zyada nahi. (The Women's Reservation Bill will only benefit rich and urban women. Our poor and rural women are not attractive... I will not say beyond this)."

Prime Minister Modi also faced a lot of criticism for making a sexist remark against Sunanda Pushkar. During an election rally, he said, "Wah kya girlfriend hai. Apne kabhi dekha hai 50 crore ka girlfriend?" (Wow, what a girlfriend. Have you ever seen a 50-crore girlfriend)."

Well, that somewhere reflects the reality of Indian politics and also the state of women who are a part of this world.
