Physical health is one of the most evident benefits of sports. “Regular participation in sports helps improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility, and coordination. This physical activity reduces the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart conditions. In addition to this, sports encourage individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles, including balanced diets and adequate sleep,” said Karkikar.

Athletes must constantly analyse their performance and that of their opponents, which enhances cognitive functions. Bhakti said, “In addition to physical, mental, and emotional growth, sports foster essential life skills. Leadership, communication, and teamwork are invaluable skills developed through sports participation.” Sports help athletes learn how to communicate effectively with teammates, strategise during games, and lead by example. “These skills are crucial in various aspects of life, from academics to future careers,” she added.
