Wedding planning might not be the most fascinating aspect of the festivity but you just can't do without it. Indian weddings are often a week-long extravaganza. From the wedding venue to your D-day outfit to the food, a whole lot of planning is called-for.

Wedding season is here and we are sure all the brides out there are in for a splurge tour. We don't blame you! All of us fall for those expensive lehengas, pricey venues, OTT decors among all the other heavy on pocket wedding stuff which we probably shouldn't spend on but still end up doing it anyway. The result? A complete misalignment of our wedding budget and plan.

A lot of brides also end up breaking the bank by taking the big, showy route. But is it worth it? We spoke to five brides and they shared things which aren’t worth the splurge. Read on.

Wedding Lehenga

Most brides don't hold back on their wallet when it comes to picking their wedding lehenga. Many look for big names like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi Mukherjee among other well-known designers and they cost a bomb!

Anupriya Khanna, who tied the knot this year said, "Designer outfits aren't worth it if you’re already on a budget - one can easily buy a replica/ a lehenga from a lesser known label. It’s totally okay. And mind you, Chandni Chowk/Shahpur jat is flooded with designs for a resourceful bride to explore.

Every bride wants to look her best on her big day, and why not. But that shouldn’t cost you a kidney. Instead, put that extra bucks on buying real jewellery that can be used as an investment in future."

Wedding Trousseau

Some brides are obsessed with their trousseau, especially clothing. Many end up buying sarees, suits, lehengas keeping in mind the post-wedding events like puja at home, dinners with family and friends.

"Choose your wedding trousseau wisely ! Buy things that you will be wearing, don’t stock up," said Shivani Madan.

Decor

Wedding decor is another element many splurge on. From single colour schemes to vintage vibes, there are multiple options to choose from. However, they are usually high-priced.

"Wedding banquets and lawns charge a bomb for the decor. Special requests cost additional. Rather than spending bucks on fancy decor, go for something minimal which can be covered in your regular booking cost and still add vibe to the wedding venue," suggested Neha Gupta.

Mehendi

Indian weddings are incomplete without the mehendi rasam. Bridal mehendi is usually priced from Rs. 1100 onwards. Mehendi artists charge depending on the design and length of the bridal mehendi.

Kalpana Bhatia said "Splurging on mehendi isn't a great idea. I spent around ₹Rs. 7000 for my wedding mehendi. Instead of booking a fancy mehendi artist, hunt for locals who don't charge much."
