Ramayan: Ramanand Sagar Had This Condition Before Selecting Arun Govil For Ram's Role

The COVID-19 lockdown has brought a number of classic shows back on the Indian television. Mythological series like Ramayan and Mahabharat are back on the small screen and enjoying massive popularity among the masses. The audiences are paying keen attention to these iconic shows and new facts about these shows are now coming to light.

Arun Govil recently revealed that Ramanand had a special condition before selecting him for portraying Lord Ram's role in the series. Read on to find out what was it.

Arun Govil spoke to a leading news daily and revealed that he was once rejected by Ramanand Sagar for the role of Ram. "When I heard that Sagars are planning to start a new show, Ramayan, I approached them. But they didn't like what they saw and rejected me," Arun Govil told a leading news portal.

"A few weeks later, after they had announced the lead actor, Ramanand Sagar called me up to say that the selection panel had a change of mind. The consensus was, said Ramanandji, that we wouldn’t find a better actor to play Ram. I guess it was my destiny, " he added.

But playing the Almighty had its pitfalls. Ramanand Sagar clearly told him to quit smoking as he thought the person portraying the role of Lord Ram on the screen shouldn’t have any bad habits. “The three years that I was playing Ram, I felt I was under a magnifying lens. I had to make little sacrifices. To begin with, I had to give up smoking in public. And for a once-heavy smoker like me, it wasn’t easy, " Arun Govil was quoted as saying.
