The Hindu religion has given special importance to the ancestors and Pitru Paksha, which is the duration dedicated to pleasing them and seeking their blessings. People perform Pind Daan, Tarpan and Shradh for their ancestors so that they can attain salvation.
The Pitru Paksha is observed from the Pratipada Tithi of Bhadrapada month till the new moon day of Ashwin month. According to the scriptures, if anybody, human or animal, comes to your home during this period, you must not let them leave with an empty stomach or empty-handed. This is because it is believed that the ancestors can come to meet their descendants in any form at this time.
This year, the Pitru Paksha started on September 29 and will end on October 14. One must perform the Shradh ritual for the ancestors during these 15 days for auspiciousness in life and home and also, to get rid of the Pitru Dosha.

Best Timing For Pind Daan 2024
- Afternoon, also referred to as the Kutup Bela, is said to be the most auspicious time for Pind Daan.
- The Pind Daan is performed for three previous generations from both, maternal and paternal, sides.
- The donations of Pind should not be done in the morning nor in the evening as this can to inauspicious effects on the person.
- During Pitru Paksha, the best time for Pind Daan is generally from 11:30 in the afternoon to 02:30 in the afternoon.
