There is a special significance of the Pitru Paksha Puja in the Hindu religion. The belief is that worshipping your ancestors during this time can help a person attain happiness, prosperity and good fortune.
Pitru Paksha is going to start soon as per the Hindu calendar. During this period, the descendants are supposed to perform Shradh and worship their ancestors by following all the rituals for peace of their ancestors’ souls and their salvation. This year, the Pitru Paksha will start on Friday, September 29 and it will end on October 14.
Every year, the full moon date of Bhadrapada month marks the beginning of the Pitru Paksha and the Amavasya of this month marks the end of it. During this period of 16 days, Pind Daan, Tarpan and Shradh rituals are performed as per the date of the deceased ancestors.
It is considered to be beneficial if you donate water and food on these days. You should also offer flowers to appease the ancestors. We asked our Astrologer Pandit Arvind Tripathiespecially which flowers should be offered to gain the maximum and auspicious benefits according to the scriptures, scroll down to know about them.
Before going into the details, you should know that not all flowers are used in Pitru Paksha Puja. Lotus, Juhi, Champa, Malti, Tulsi, Bhringraj and white flowers are used in the rituals of Shradh. You should not use Kevada, Kadamba, Belpatra, black and red lung flowers and more fragrant flowers during Shradh puja. Scriptures say that offering them can anger the ancestors.
