Maa Katyayani is the sixth form of Maa Durga, and the sixth day of Navratri, Shahasti, is devoted to her. She is the strongest manifestation of Goddess Durga. Demons and devil spirits were killed by her. Many devotees also call her the ‘Warrior Goddess’.
Her skin is glowing golden like the sun, and she is seen riding a lion. She wields a sword and a lotus blossom in each of her four hands. Her other hands remain in the Abhay Mudra. Maa Katyayani is also known as Maa Mahishasurmardini. She got this name upon beheading the demon king Mahishasura with a sword. No one can look at her without her consent. The Goddess is also the ruler of planet Jupiter.
For Shashti, the colour grey is considered to be auspicious as it is the colour for Goddess Katyayani. This colour balances your emotions and also keeps you humble, grounded.

According to Hindu scriptures, a sage named Katyayan was a huge devotee of Maa Parvati. The sage was childless and prayed endlessly to get Maa Parvati as his daughter. After seeing Katyayan’s penance and devotion towards her, Maa Parvati decides to grant his wish. She came on Earth as his daughter and was given the name "Katayayani" by Sage Katyayan.
