Navratri 2025 Day 5: Significance

There used to be a demon named Tarkasur who begged Lord Brahma to make him immortal. After Lord Brahma refused his request by saying no one can avoid death, the demon came up with another plan. He asked to get death from Lord Shiva’s child. Tarkusar felt that Lord Shiva was detached from everything and had no plans of getting married.

After Tarkasur was granted immortality, he wreaked havoc on the cosmos. It was then revealed by Lord Vishnu that Lord Shiva was going to get married to Goddess Parvati. After their marriage, Lord Kartikeya was born. Lord Kartikeya was then chosen as the commander-in-chief of the Gods by Lord Brahma himself. He was successful in killing Tarkasur.
