Mumbai residents are soon set to enjoy smoother and more convenient commutes with the introduction of the Mumbai 1 Smartcard, a unified travel card that will allow seamless access to various public transportation services across the city. According to a report by Times Now, the initiative aims to simplify daily travel by eliminating the need for multiple tickets.
The Mumbai 1 Smartcard was officially unveiled by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The launch also included the flagging off of 238 new air-conditioned trains in the suburban rail network. CM Fadnavis confirmed that the smart card will soon be rolled out across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
This all-in-one smartcard will enable commuters to travel across different public transport systems, including Metro, suburban trains, and BEST buses—using a single card. Instead of standing in long queues and buying separate tickets, passengers will simply be able to tap their card and board, saving both time and effort.
To purchase the Mumbai 1 card, visit any Metro station on MMRDA Lines 2A or 7. Head to the ticket counter and request the Mumbai1 card. Fill out a basic application form and submit it along with your mobile number. Once your details are entered, you’ll receive an OTP on your phone. Share the OTP with the operator, pay the top-up amount, and your smartcard will be activated and ready to use.
