Bengaluru Metro commuters will see a significant change in their travel expenses as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) implements a fare hike. The increase, averaging around 50%, comes after recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee. For the first time, the Metro will also introduce peak and non-peak hour pricing.
Here’s everything you need to know about the new fare structure, discounts, and how it might affect your daily commute.
Bengaluru Namma Metro Fare Hike: Revised Rates
The maximum fare for a Metro ride will increase from ₹60 to ₹90, and the minimum smart card balance required has also been raised from ₹50 to ₹90. Here’s the updated fare breakdown based on distance:
- 0-2 km– ₹10
- 2-4 km – ₹20
- 4-6 km– ₹30
- 6-8 km – ₹40

- 15-20 km – ₹70
- 20-25 km – ₹80
- 25-30 km and above – ₹90
Bengaluru Namma Metro: Peak vs. Non-Peak Hour Price
To ease congestion during busy hours and reward off-peak travellers, BMRCL has introduced a discount system for smart card users. Here’s how it works:
- Peak Hours: Smart card users get a 5% discount.
- Non-Peak Hours: An additional 5% discount, totalling 10% off.

Bengaluru Namma Metro: When Are Non-Peak Hours?
- Early Morning: From Metro opening until 8 AM
- Midday: 12 PM to 4 PM
- Evening: 9 PM to closing time (only on weekdays)
- Sundays and National Holidays: Flat 10% discount on all smart card fares.
What About QR Code Tickets?
If you’re someone who relies on QR code tickets, there’s some bad news. The 5% discount previously offered on QR tickets has been removed, leading to fare increases of up to 80% on certain routes.
