Actor Vijay Deverakonda's pan-India movie Liger landed into trouble with a money laundering case. This comes two weeks after filmmaker Puri Jagannadh and producer Charmee Kaur were also questioned about the funding for the film. Following reports that money used to fund the film came from a foreign source, which is a clear violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) of 1999, ED summoned Deverakonda to know about the identity of the financiers. The actor was questioned by the Enforcement Directorate for 12 hours over the founding sources of his last movie Liger. After the interrogation, he spoke to the media and said it was his duty to come as the officials called him.

    Deverakonda’s Statement After The Interrogation

Speaking to the media after being questioned by ED for 12 hours, Deverakonda said, "I gave few answers to the questions asked by the ED officials. They have done their job. And that popularity comes with some side effects. This is one such thing. But, it’s an experience. It’s life. And I did my duty when I was called. I came and answered the questions."

Complaint Lodged by a Congress Leader Bakka Judson

This comes two weeks after producer Charmee Kaur and director Puri Jagannadh were also questioned regarding the movie's funding. Liger was made on a budget of ₹120 crores. According to the complaint lodged by Congress leader Bakka Judson with ED alleging that several politicians had invested in the ₹125 crores to the film to turn their “black money” white.

Liger cast included Ananya Panday, Ramya Krishnan, and Ronit Roy. The movie was promoted massively as a pan-India production. However, the audience’s reactions to the movie were mostly negative, with most seeing it as conventional and a missed opportunity for Deverakonda, who spent three years working on it.
