Karwa Chauth, also known as Karak Chaturthi, falls on October 13 this year. On this day, women observe a one-day nirjala vrat (fast without food And water). They start fasting early in the morning and end it after sighting the moon.
Karwa Chauth is a significant Hindu festival in which married women fast for their partner's well-being, safety, and longevity. Some unmarried women also observe a fast on this day in the hope to get desired life partner.
On Karwa Chauth, the moon will rise at 8:09 pm, according to the Drik Panchang.

The word Karwa Chauth is made of two words: Karva, which means an earthen pot and Chauth which means four. The festival is observed on the Chaturthi Tithi of the Kartik month.
Women observe a fast on this day beginning at sunrise and breaking it once they see the moon. In the evening, women look at the moon through a sieve, and then they move to look at their husbands' faces via a sieve. They also pray to the moon and give an offering. Then they eat a bite of food and sip on some water offered by their husbands to end the vrat.
Not just women, but many husbands also observe fast on this day for their wives.

According to Hindu texts, once a war raged between Gods and demons and in the war, the demons were dominating. This caused worry among wives of all the Gods and they hurriedly reached out to Brahmadev for the protection of their husbands' lives.
Brahmadev asked them to observe a Karwa Chauth fast and told them that in the effect of this special fast, there would be no harm to their husbands and that the Gods will win.
The wives of these Gods followed Brahamdev's advice. They observed Karwa Chauth fast on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. After observing fast, Karwa Mata saved the lives of the Gods. Since then, married women observe this special fast on Karwa Chauth for the longevity and well-being of their husbands.
