Infosys Foundation Chairperson Sudha Murthy Donates Rs 100 crore To Fight COVID-19

As India is battling against the coronavirus pandemic, Infosys Foundation Chairperson, Sudha Murthy donated Rs 100 crore to fight this deadly virus.

India’s battle against the deadly virus, coronavirus, is getting intense with each passing day as the toll of positive cases has crossed 1200 now with 30 deaths. While the central government has already announced a 21-day lockdown to curtail the spread of deadly virus, celebrities have also been doing their bit to make people aware about it. Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also announced CARES funds which invited donations from people across the country to fight against COVID 19.

While several big shots have contributed to the fund, joining them the chairperson of Infosys Foundation Sudha Murthy also announced a contribution of Rs 100 crore to PM’s CARES fund today. Infosys Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Infosys Ltd, announced it on Monday. Out of 100 crores, they have already contributed half of it to the PM CARES fund. 

The remaining amount is donated to expand hospital capacity for treatment of COVID 19 patients across India, especially for people who can’t afford it.

The Foundation is also providing ventilators, testing kits, face mask, protective suits etc to healthcare workers who’re dealing with COVID-19 patients or finding cure for this deadly virus. They are also working with various NGOs to provide food and hygiene kits for the underprivileged section of the society.

Infosys Foundation chairperson Sudha Murty said in a statement, “These are unprecedented times that require every section of the society to rise up to the challenge. Infosys Foundation has always supported the needs of the country in difficult situations and we will continue to work with governments, non-profits, and healthcare institutions in their fight against this global pandemic.” 

She further added, “All our efforts will be targeted towards ensuring that the relief material reaches the people who need it the most, whether it is a patient who cannot afford treatment, our healthcare personnel, or daily-wage workers whose livelihood has been severely impacted.”

 

Apart from Sudha Murthy, business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani, Ratan Tata, Anand Mahindra and Anil Agarwal have also pledged to contribute their bit for combating the coronavirus pandemic. While Ambani has donated Rs 1500 crore, Ratan Tata donated Rs 1000 crore to fight the crisis situation. In fact, several celebrities like Akshay Kumar, Anushka Sharma, Virat Kohli, Kartik Aaryan, Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan, Kapil Sharma, etc also came forward to contribute their bit to tackle this highly transmissible virus.
