Using Baking Soda

Though you may consider baking soda as a basic kitchen ingredient but let us tell you that it is the ultimate cleaning agent which can be used to clean different substances and one of those are your metal or plastic tea strainers.

Method

  • Take some hot water in a bowl.
  • Add 1 teaspoon of baking soda to the bowl.
  • Mix the ingredients well.
  • Now, take your stained tea strainer and soak it in the mixture for 3-4 hours.
  • After that, just gently clean it with a toothbrush. It will remove all the unwanted particles.
  • Clean the tea strainer with any dishwashing soap to remove the residue and rinse it with water.

Using Alcohol

  • Pour about one-fourth cup of Vodka in a bowl.
  • Then, add three-fourth cup of water in the same bowl.
  • After that, place the tea strainer in the solution and leave it immersed overnight.
  • Rinse the tea strainer with water.

The Hard Brushing Method

This is actually a more aggressive approach for removing heavy staining or cleaning up loads of tiny particles from your tea strainer.

This method is only for strainers that are made with steel or other metal components. Also, don’t try this hack with plastic strainers as you would be heating the strainer over a flame and the plastic can melt or deform.

Method

  • Turn on the gas on a low flame.
  • Then, take your tea strainer and heat it over the flame for 2-3 minutes. Make sure you hold it with a kitchen glove or towel to avoid burning your hand as the tea strainer can get too hot to hold.
  • Once all the affected areas have turned charcoal black, turn off the flame.
  • Take an old toothbrush and scrub it across the surface of the mesh to clean properly.
  • Finally, wash it clean with dishwashing soap and water. You will get a revived and nearly new strainer!
