All About HP Government's Scheme To Financially Assist Widows, Single Women In Building Houses

Widows and single women often struggle to build houses in the country and multiple reasons contribute to it. Financial constraints and societal reasons are two of the many factors that make it difficult for women to construct homes for themselves and their families. Such women now have a silver lining.

Himachal Pradesh government is all set to launch a scheme to financially assist widows and single women in constructing houses. Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently talked about the upcoming scheme called Mukhyamantri Vidhwa Evam Ekal Nari Awas Yojna. The Chief Minister shared that he presented the scheme during the Budget session and The Women and Child Development Department is finalising the process of the scheme.

The Chief Minister while talking about the upcoming scheme shared that the government is focusing on reforms to improve the living standards of the weaker sections of the state and going forward, the results will be visible. He said that the present state government has introduced many initiatives for the unprivileged section of the society in their Budget for 2023-24.

He further added that the state government's efforts to address the housing needs of the vulnerable groups aim to promote inclusive and sustainable development in Himachal Pradesh.

Mukhyamantri Vidhwa Evam Ekal Nari Awas Yojna

Under the scheme, an amount of ₹1.5 Lakh will be provided as financial assistance to about 7000 women with an annual income of less than ₹2 Lakh per year. The amount will be given during the current financial year as per the statement issued by the Chief Minister.

All the houses constructed under this scheme will come with basic facilities like water, electricity and other necessary amenities. The government has announced this to ensure that women have access to all the essential resources in their homes.

Other Schemes Introduced By Himachal Pradesh State Government

CM Sukhvinder Singh also recently announced a scheme to offer education loans to poor students at one percent interest. The scheme - Mukhyamantri Vidyarthi Protsahan Yojna will be made available for students who wish to pursue higher and professional studies. The state government has proposed a ₹200 Crore plan.

The loan will cover charges of books, tuition fees, accommodation and other expenses related to their education. (Government Internship Scheme)

The scheme will cover professional courses in the field of medicine, engineering, management, PhD courses, Polytechnic, B Pharmacy, nursing, General Nursing and Midwifery among others.

The HP state government also announced the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) recently. The old scheme was restored by the CM earlier this year. The scheme is for Himachal Pradesh government employees. Under the scheme, a monthly allowance of ₹1500 to women between 18-60 years of age who are earning ₹1 Lakh in a year. The decision turned out to be beneficial for 1.36 lakh employees of the state under the New Pension Scheme.
