Tamil Nadu Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan presented the budget for the financial year 2023-24 in the assembly on March 21, 2023. According to state’s Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Tamil Nadu will announce the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK ) election promise in 2021 which was, ₹1,000 monthly cash allowance for women homemakers. According to the minister, the programme only applies to "eligible households," meaning that a selection process could be implemented to identify the eligible women.
Details Of The Scheme:
The Finance Minister stated that ₹7,000 crores have been allocated in the budget for the scheme, despite the budget speech stating that operational procedures clarifying the eligibility to avail of the benefits under this scheme will be prepared and presented soon.
During the budget speech, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said, “I am very happy to announce that ₹1,000 per month will be provided to women heads of eligible households from the upcoming financial year. Women heads of families who have been affected adversely by the steep increase in cooking gas price by the union government and the overall price rise will greatly benefit from this scheme.”

According to reports, the government is doing all the required research and taking up work on a detailed database that will be based on the necessary social and economic requirements to select qualified women homemakers for this specific programme.

Apart from the announcement for the welfare of the state's women by giving the monthly allowance of 1000, the government also announced setting up tech cities in Chennai, Hosur and Coimbatore (Top 5 Tourist Places To Visit In Coimbatore). Also to promote the economic development of ST/SC entrepreneurs, the government will launch a scheme known as Annual Ambedkar Business Champions Scheme. The Tamil Nadu government's budget will also set up a Global Sports City in Chennai in collaboration with the Chennai Metropolitan Development Agency (CMDA).
