HZ Moment Of Pride: Herzindagi Bags Best Feature Article And Best Article Series At Digipub Awards 2023

In India, journalism is the fourth pillar of democracy. Our journalists go to various extents to bring you stories from across the globe, and this year, it’s HerZindagi’s moment of pride as we won Best Feature Article and Best Article Series at the Digipub Awards 2023. 

We could not be more proud of our team members, Shruti Dixit, Chief Sub-Editor, and Tanya Malik, Deputy Manager, for making our publication shine at the award show. The awards included:

Best Feature Article: What Is Female Genital Mutilation

A few months back, Dixit wrote a story on Female Genital Mutilation around International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation. She covered why many cultures in India and around the world follow this trend.

In the case of female genital mutilation, people either cut the clitoris entirely or a part of it. In many cultures, they sew a part of the vagina or make holes in it. It is believed that mutilating genitals can reduce sex drive among females.

Approximately 20 crores of girls and women in at least 30 countries across the globe go through this painful, illegal, and unsafe process. In 2017, Bohra Muslim Community met Prime Minister Narendra Modi to tell him about the issue and request him to take necessary action against it.

Best Article Series: Being A Brown Daughter

Being A Brown Daughter is a series by Malik in which she navigates the challenges a girl faces while growing up in a patriarchal, sexist, and misogynist society. One of the articles talks about how the final rites of her father were reserved for her brother.

“As the elder daughter of the family, my prime responsibilities included taking care of the family, marrying well, learning how to cook before getting married, being homely, avoiding alcoholic drinks, not getting mad at things, among others,” an excerpt from the article read. 

Other titles in the series include: ‘It Isn’t A Safe World, Why My Family Never Permitted Me To Travel Solo’, ‘How I Was Conditioned To Be The Sensitive Gender’, ‘How I Grew Up Thinking It Was Only Women Who Made Compromises’, and ‘When I Was Taught Marriage Was The Key To Get Respect In Society’ among others. 

Jagran New Media Bagged Four Awards

July 27, 2023, was a moment of Pride for Jagran New Media as it bagged four awards at Digipub Awards. Apart from two awards won by Herzindagi, the other two included:
