She was six times the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for over fourteen years between 1991 and until she breathed her last in 2016. She was a full throttle actress and a trained dancer before she turned to politics and was lovingly and out of respect known as amma by the people of Tamil Nadu. Jayaram Jayalalithaa was born on 24 February, 1948 and we chanced to stumble upon some unseen or rather rare pictures of her childhood and her acting days that we thought of sharing with you. Most are in black and white and capture some beautiful moments of her life, on whom we even have a biopic coming up with Kangana Ranaut essaying her role. Take a look at this gold mine.

This pic below is from the time when she was traning to be a dancer and it was her dancing skills and acting talent that gained her the title of  "Queen of Tamil Cinema". She had appeared in 140 films between 1961 and 1980, which were in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada languages.

She was born at Melukote, Pandavapura taluka, Mandya district, which was then in Mysore State (Karnataka) to Jayaram and Vedavalli (Sandhya) in Tamil Brahmin Iyengar family.

Jayalalitha started acting in drama and films and used the screen name Vidyavathy.

The legend made her debut as the lead actress in Kannada films when she was just 15, in Chinnada Gombe (1964). She also appeared in a dance sequence of a song named "Malligeya Hoovinantha" in the movie Amarashilpi Jakannachari (in the same year.

It was between April–May 1964 when she shot for the films Chinnada Gombe and Manushulu Mamathalu which became blockbusters. By the end of the next year 1965, she had become popular among film producers and directors.

Her debut in Tamil cinema was with Vennira Aadai in 1965), which was directed by C. V. Sridhar. Jayalalitha's debut in Telugu films as lead was in Manushulu Mamathalu in which starred opposite Akkineni Nageswara Rao. Her last Telugu release was in the film Nayakudu Vinayakudu, which was released in 1980.

Did you know that she was the first heroine to appear in skirts in Tamil films? Speaking of films, we can't miss out on her film in Hindi film industry. Her film was titled Izzat, opposite Dharmendra in 1968.

Interestingly, Jayalalithaa also donated her gold jewellery to the then Indian Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1965, as per reports.

It was in the year 1967 when she bought her bungalow, Veda Nilayam, in Poes Gardens for Rs 1.32 lakh which is equivalent to the amount of Rs 53 lakh or US$74,000 in 2018).
