Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan and former Indian cricket team captain Kapil Dev are all set to make India proud on Australian ground as they will hoist the Indian flag at the Indian Film Festival Melbourne (IFFM). The flag hoisting will be done in order to mark the 75th Independence day.

Abhishek Bachchan will be present at IFFM as one of the important guests. Bachchan said to Mid-day, “It gives me great honour to be a part of the 75th year celebrations of Indian Independence in Melbourne. It’s a matter of pride for me to hoist the Indian National Flag in the iconic Federation Square. It’s an event where Indians from all across Australia, from all different backgrounds, will come together to celebrate India at 75. This is a mark of the friendship between Australia and India.”

Along with expressing his gratitude to be present at this historic event, he also expressed his happiness to be able to share the platform with ‘Kapil Sir’. He feels that it will be a great moment as it is going to mark the coming together of cinema and cricket, two things that play a huge role in uniting Indians. 

“Looking forward to celebrating India, Indians and the spirit of our country amongst hundreds of people who will be in attendance to celebrate this landmark moment and event,” he added.

The event will also mark the friendship of India and Australia as the two iconic personalities from India will hoist their flag on Australian soil.

Indian Film Festival Melbourne

IFFM will take place from  August 12 to August 20, 2022. The event will take place both physically and virtually. During the pandemic, the event took place virtually. But it is the first time since Covid-19 that this event is taking place physically. 

This is one of the biggest film festivals that takes place outside India and the only one backed by the Australian government. 

The event will showcase over 100 critically acclaimed movies. The festival will open with Anurag Basu’s Dobaaraa starring Taapsee Pannu.
