Barfi Tossing His Shoe (Jhilmil and Barfi)

The bond between Barfi and Jhilmil was one of a kind and beautiful in its own way. In this scene, Jhilmil sat in her room beside the balcony and Barfi kept tossing his shoe in the air. Jhilmil’s innocent smile evokes longing and nostalgia, and this scene had our hearts.

When six years later, Shruti comes back into Barfi’s life and rekindles their friendship, there is a scene when the three characters are travelling by a tram in Kolkata. The song ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil’ is weaved through this sequence, which features Shruti and Jhilmil sitting together on a seat and Barfi standing in front of them while the former stares at Barfi and the latter holds his clothes tightly out of habit. This one scene depicts so many shades of love, full with its longings and regrets.

After Barfi visits Shruti’s house on a rainy morning with a marriage proposal and a heart filled with hopes, he comes out of the house heartbroken upon meeting Shruti’s fiance instead. Shruti accompanies Barfi outside with an umbrella and it is Barfi, who makes her smile when she is crying.

Barfi Kidnaps Jhilmil in the Forest

The forest scene when Barfi kidnaps Jhilmil for ransom is one of our top favourite scenes from the film. The sequences where Barfi’s antics with bubbles and fireflies lure Jhilmil into following him into the jungle are beyond beautiful.

Barfi and police inspector cat and mouse chase

One of the funniest sequences in the film has been that of the interactions between Barfi and the police Inspector Sudhanshu Dutta (played by Saurabh Shukla). While the inspector cared deeply for Barfi, they were always locking horns like Tom & Jerry, whenever they were in a frame. The bank robbery scene was especially the funniest cat and mouse chase.
