What do we all typically look for as the weekend approaches? Usually a spot that serves delectable food in a fun setting, a hangout place that doesn't cost a bomb. Right? This time, I came across Indian Republic Canteen, a newly opened restaurant in the heart of New Delhi, and here's how it went.
The Menu
The à la carte menu features the beloved street foods from across the country, each served with a unique twist. Additionally, the menu offers a wide array of mains from various cuisines, including Italian and Chinese.
Other than the à la carte menu, the canteen also serves a buffet every day of the week, with vegetarian options. The vegetarian buffet includes traditional Indian dishes like kadhai paneer and dal makhani.

The Ambiance
The ambiance at the canteen was a riot of colours. The walls are beautifully painted, and the air filled with lively music and the buzz of conversations—making it the perfect get-together with family and friends.
My Experience
Indian Republic Canteen isn't your typical restaurant serving the most-loved desi treats from across the country. While the place does represent every corner of India, it is all offered with a refreshing new twist. It is more like a culinary journey across India but in ways you would never imagine.
Think bread pakora but baked to perfection in a waffle maker or dal pakwan redone into tacos. Each dish served at the Indian Republic Canteen is a play on textures and flavours. The presentation makes each of them a star, imagine authentic misal pav served in a steel thaali with an earthen pot with hot misal or samosas served as rolls in earthenware.
From the multitude of interesting options on the drinks menu, ranging from nimbu shikanji to popcorn frappe, I chose a glass of chilled, freshly made kala khatta for myself and it was a refreshing!

The dessert section was equally exciting. Ever tried a waffle imarti? Hot, deep-fried imarti soaked in sugar syrup and then baked in a waffle maker, topped with a generous amount of fresh rabri and pistachios, it was a true treat!
