Poha Dhokla Recipe 

Here is an easy recipe for the sweet and salty snack Poha Dhokla to relish with your family and friends for snacks:

Batter 

  1. Coat the dhokla steamer plate with some oil and keep it aside.
  2. Pour ½ cup poha, ½ cup sooji, and ¼ cup besan into a grinder jar to make powder.
  3. Add the powder to a bowl, pour ½ cup plain dahi, and water and whisk it all. 
  4. Add ¼ tsp turmeric powder, ½ tsp ginger paste, 1 tsp granulated white sugar, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp oil, and 1 tsp green chilli paste, mix them well for a minute, and keep it covered for 20 minutes. 

Steaming

  1. Add a cup of water to the steamer and let it boil at high.
  2. Add some water to the dhokla batter and mix until you get a thick batter. 
  3. Pour the ENO into the batter, mix it well, and instantly transfer it to the steamer plate. 
  4. Sprinkle some red chilli powder and black pepper powder on the batter and cover the steamer. 
  5. After steaming it for 10-12 minutes on high, poke the batter with a toothpick, it should come out clean. 
  6. Take out the plate and keep it aside to cool down for 10 minutes. 
  7. Cut the dhokla into squares with a knife and arrange them on a plate. 

Tempering

  1. Heat some oil in a pan on a medium-high flame.
  2. Add 1 tsp brown mustard seeds (sarson), 1 tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp white sesame seeds (til), 2 tsp chopped green chillies, 10-12 curry leaves, and ½ tsp asafetida (hing) to the hot oil and let them crackle for about 5 seconds.
  3. Pour the tempering on your dhokla.
  4. Serve your sweet, salty, and spicy dhokla with some green chutney.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup poha
  • ½ cup sooji (semolina)
  • ¼ cup besan (chickpea flour)
  • ½ cup plain dahi (curd)
  • ¾ cup water (plus some more)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp ginger paste
  • 1 tsp granulated white sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp green chilli paste
  • 1 tsp ENO fruit salt
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp brown mustard seeds (sarson)
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp white sesame seeds (til)
  • 2 tsp chopped green chillies
  • 10-12 curry leaves
  • ½ tsp asafetida (hing)

Step

  1. Step 1:

    Grease the dhokla steamer plate and keep it aside.

  2. Step 2:

    Add poha, besan, and sooji to a grinder and make a powder.

  3. Step 3:

    Transfer the powder to a bowl, add dahi and water and mix.

  4. Step 4:

    Add turmeric powder, ginger paste, granulated white sugar, salt, oil, and green chilli paste, mix, and let it rest.

  5. Step 5:

    Add water to the steamer and let it boil.

  6. Step 6:

    Add water and ENO to the batter, mix, and transfer it to the steamer plate.

  7. Step 7:

    After sprinkling red chilli powder and black pepper on the batter, let it cook for 10-12 minutes.

  8. Step 8:

    Remove the steamer plate and let it cool for 10 minutes.

  9. Step 9:

    Cut square dhokla pieces while preparing the tempering.

  10. Step 10:

    Add brown mustard seeds, cumin seeds, sesame seeds, chopped green chillies, curry leaves, and asafetida to hot oil until they crackle.

  11. Step 11:

    Pour the tempering on dhokla.

  12. Step 12:

    Serve it cold with green chutney.
