Ingredients
- For paste of gravy/sauce:2 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 1 tsp garlic paste
- 1 cup chpped onion
- 1 cup chopped tomato
- 1/2 cup grated coconut
- To make gravy/sauce: 3 tbsp oil
- the spice paste
- salt to taste
- 1 tsp red chilly paste
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp cumin-coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp clove and cinnamon powder
- Water for consistency
- To make usal: 3 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp garlic paste and ginger paste each
- 1/2 tsp hing (asafoetida)
- 1 1/2 cups steamed moth or sprouts (soaked overnight)
- 1 cup boiled and cut into pieces potato
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon-clove powder
- 1 lime juice
- water as per requirement
- salt to taste
- For Garnishing: Chopped onion
- mix dry farsan or chivda or chidva
- chopped coriander
Instructions
- Step 1
- Heat oil in a pan and the add ginger and garlic paste and chopped onion and saute.
- Step 2
- Add tomatoes and grated coconut once the onion becomes translucent and saute it for few minutes.
- Step 3
- Let it all cool after saute and the grind into a paste.
- Step 4
- Now again heat oil in the same pan and add the paste into oil and saute it for 2 minutes.
- Step 5
- Now add red chilli powder, garam masala, clove-cinnamon powder, turmeric powder, cumin-coriander powder, salt and mix it.
- Step 6
- Add water and cook till the mixture starts leaving oil and then transfer it all into a bowl.
- Step 7
- Now heat some more oil in the pan and make usal by adding garlic and ginger paste along with hing.
- Step 8
- Saute it for a minute and then add soaked & boiled sprouts along with potatoes.
- Step 9
- Next, add turmeric powder, garam masala, clove-cinnamon powder, salt and lime juice.
- Step 10
- Add water to it and cook it for about 8-10 minutes.
- Step 11
- Transfer it in a separate bowl.
- Step 12
- Now take a serving bowl and first pour in the usal that we made and then on top pour the gravy.

- Now add the onion we chopped and the chidva or farsan and season with chopped coriander.
- Step 14
- Serve it with pav and a slice of lemon.
