Easy And Quick Recipe To Make Urad Dal Khichdi
- Start by rinsing the half cup of Urad dal thoroughly till the water runs clear. Then, you have to soak it in water for one hour approximately.
- In a separate bowl, soak one cup similarly rinsed rice for at least 15 minutes.
- As you start cooking, strain the water from rice and dal.
- Start the process by heating a one-eighth cup of ghee on medium flame in a pressure cooker.
- Add cumin seeds (Jeera), red chillies, cloves (Laung), cinnamon, black cardamom (badi elaichi), grated ginger, and asafoetida (Hing) as per your taste to the hot ghee. Fry them together for approximately 20 seconds.
- Then, add one-third cup of chopped onions to it and saute it for about one minute, until golden brown.
- Add the strained lentils, red chilli powder, and turmeric and saute. Do this precisely for one minute to add a delicious aroma to the dish.
- Finally, add the strained rice to it, mix them well together and add water, salt, and garam masala according to taste.
- Close the lid and let it cook for two whistles over low or medium heat. You must make sure to allow the steam to release naturally from the pressure cooker before opening it.
- Fluff the Khichdi after opening the lid and it is ready to serve.
- You can garnish it with ghee, Papad, pickle, and green chillies and serve it hot.
