Megha Arora is the founder of Teesta which is a homegrown handloom brand that believes in empowering women and draping them in Indian-crafted clothing like none other. She was awarded the editor’s choice special certificate at the HerZindagi Womenpreneur Awards 2023.
She is a dynamic entrepreneur with a passion for creating and experimenting with beautiful Indian handmade weaves. Her education and experience equipped her with the skills and knowledge she needed to embark on a successful career in business.
Her entrepreneurial journey began when she decided to follow her mother's dream of seeing her become a successful businesswoman. She started her own handloom saree business, with a focus on creating a brand that was sustainable, fashionable, and luxurious. She called her brand 'Teesta,' after her own name, given to her by her mother.
With just ₹50,000 borrowed from her husband, Megha travelled to the town of Chanderi in Madhya Pradesh to learn the process of making a saree. She met with local weavers and worked with them to create her unique designs.
With her business Megha's passion for helping others also grew. During Covid-19 pandemic struck, Megha chose to support local weaver families who were struggling to make ends meet. She provided them with financial support, raw materials, and market access, enabling them to continue their craft and earn a living during the difficult times.
Despite the challenges she faced, including her mother's diagnosis with pancreatic cancer, Megha
remained determined to succeed. She experimented with different weaves and designs, always striving to create something unique.
