Kavita Rajwade is the co-founder of IVM Podcasts, one of India’s leading podcast networks. IVM Podcasts had a lot to do with the true beginnings of podcasting in India, beyond hobby-led efforts. It is the longest-running homegrown podcast in the country. Her enthusiasm for music led her to work with some of the biggest brands in music.
Under Kavita's leadership, IVM has become one of the most popular podcasting networks in India. With a catalogue of over 90 shows across various genres, IVM has something for everyone. From politics to comedy, from business to education, IVM has a diverse range of content that attracts listeners from all over the world. During our Instagram live session for HZ Women Of The Month, she spoke about her brand and an incredible journey, take a look:
Talking about her journey and challenges she said, “The journey over the 8 years has been amazing in the podcast network. The biggest challenge was to decide that we really want to work with the word ‘Podcast’. Because people didn't even follow it much. It is not a very popular term like it is in the US. And how will we manage it were some of the main questions. But as we moved ahead with full dedication and hard work we were able to manage everything in a better way.” She also shared that she got to work with good and hard-working working people with whom she built ideas. Revenue is also challenging, on this she said, “It was important for us to not just build a network that people would consume but also the money metric and record of data as the platform has. The fact that we were dominating for the first six years of our existence, especially during the covid days, gave us the time to think and build more ideas within the video platform as well. So currently we have a lot of video-based audio platforms.”
When we asked about her biggest successful projects she said, “I think our most successful show is ‘Cyrus Says’, it was the first show ever we produced. It has 1200+ episodes. During the lockdowns we made it daily now it's 5 a week. We gave people an unedited version of the show. It was actually very interesting for us to build and predominantly lead the show with single hosts. It worked very well from the conversation point and also stands for who we are. So yes, ‘Cyrus Says’ would be our biggest successful project.”

Sharing her views on how the podcast industry will evolve in the coming years, she said, “We're gonna be working a lot in the video space now. And it is something that we are exploring and figuring out, the changes in the podcast network. Working on audio platforms like YouTube which has personalised data metrics as compared to podcasts is difficult. We are working towards general growth across the shows. Apart from being the first audio conversation platform we now also focus on the audio-visual aspect of it as well.”

She also shared a piece of advice for all female podcast hosts and said, “I think we are gender inclusive. And every idea is a good idea. For girls, it is important to sit and figure out what you can bring to the idea. Because sometimes you find great ideas but how are you going to contribute to them and make that particular idea special is something that you need to work on. It should be a high equality idea and you can take your expertise to get better. Another thing is consistency when it is also very important to figure out strategies for what you want to do.”
