As winter is coming, we need to get extra cautious about taking care of our skin and hair. It takes forever for our wet locks to dry. Hence, our most convenient option is to use a hair dryer which can cause heat damage to our hair if we’re not careful.

If we want to achieve a salon-like blowout at home every time, it is doable. It is not impossible, but we have to take care of a few things. Here are six dos and don’ts that you must never forget.

Hair Dryer Is Not A Wind Machine

It might look enticing in films to see an actor having fun with a blow dryer. However, it is not a wind machine. Therefore, you must always control its temperature to achieve a soft finish.

If you have dried your roots, take a brush and run it through the locks. Now take the hair dryer and move it in a downwards motion. It will prevent hair from getting frizzy and make them bouncy and voluminous.

Don’t Use A Dryer Right After Wash

The whole purpose of a hair dryer is to get the moisture out of the locks. However, it does not mean you start using the machine right after a wash. When your hair is dripping with water, they are most vulnerable to breakage and damage.

If you apply heat at this stage, there is no coming back from the damage you will cause. Hence, allow your towel or T-shirt to soak some of the water and let your hair air dry for some time. Once you feel the water has stopped dripping, start using the hair appliance.

Always Use A Nozzle

Using a nozzle is necessary to achieve a perfect blowout. It helps to concentrate air on a particular section and directly impacts a section of hair.

If you blow dry your roots using a nozzle, it will work faster, and the appliance will cause lesser damage.

Don’t Apply Heavy Products

You must avoid using heavy hair care products right before using a hair dryer. Not only will it impact the process but also make your locks appear greasy and oily. You will only end up washing them again soon, and it is a task in itself during winters.

Divide Locks Into Separate Sections

divide hair in sections

To achieve a perfect finish after a blowout, you must always divide hair into separate sections, four or six at least. It will allow the nozzle to concentrate on a particular part and work its magic.

Blow drying sections of hair also ensures that each part gets properly sealed with the heat of the appliance. It will also be easier for you to hold, comb, and dry out small and thin sections compared to working on a handful of strands at once.

Don’t Just Use Any Comb

When blowdrying, your brush also plays a significant role as much as the heating appliance. Using a round thermal brush ensures every strand gets the optimal amount of heat and dries quickly.

These brushes come in various sizes, and you can buy them depending on the quality of your hair. Round brushes also keep hair free from frizz.
