At 5.30 PM, Sania Mirza took the internet by storm as she announced her retirement from International Tennis. The stellar Indian player has won several trophies and received many titles. We will see an exemplary player on the court one last time at the Australian Open 2023, which commenced on January 8.

Mirza shared three images on Instagram and Twitter with the caption, “Life update :)”
She shared that she was only six years old when she first walked onto a tennis court at Nizam Club with her mom and fought the couch to let her learn to play the game. He thought she was too little, but little did he know that the young girl would grow up to become a renowned tennis player who would win medals for her country.
Her fight for her dreams began at six!
She expressed her desire as a little girl to represent her country at the Grand Slam someday, but destiny had other plans. Not only did she participate in a bunch of tournaments but also won a few. She raised our tricolour flag so that millions could know the country she was from.
“I have tears in my eyes and goosebumps even as I type this,” the retirement post read further.

Mirza thanked her family, friends and all the coaches who had been by her side and supported her in her journey, even at the toughest moments. She had been a professional athlete for 20 years and a tennis player for 30 years.
Her journey to win multiple Grand Slam tournaments started in 2005 with the Australian Open. “So, it goes without saying that this would be the most perfect Grand Slam to end my career with,” the professional tennis player wrote.

Mirza was filled with pride and emotions as she was bracing herself to play her Australian Open 18 years after she played her first.
“Life must move on, and I don’t think this is the end but, in fact, a beginning of many different memories to be created, dreams to be achieved and new goals to be set,” Sania Mirza added.
She ended the note with, “Game. Set. Celebrate! Here’s to new beginnings.”

In 2009, Mirza won Australian Open in mixed doubles. In 2012 and 2014, she made the country proud by winning at the French Open and US Open.
In 2016, Mirza emerged as the winner at Wimbledon and the US Open 2015 in Women’s doubles. In the same category, the tennis player won Australian Open.
In July 2016, Mirza published an autobiography, Aced Against Odds. She detailed her journey from being on a Hyderabad tennis court at six to being on the top of her game and making India proud. She mentioned her relationship with cricketer Shoab Malik and encounters with top players in the world.
