When it comes to Punjabi food, we all know... in fact the world knows (those with an open mind when it comes to food), that there are some seriously fatty delicacies which are a treat to those taste buds. Starting with the home to the Golden Temple which is well known for the Kada Prasad, you can treat your hungry souls to yummy kulchas, jalebi, lassi, chicken and more.

Here are some places which you must visit to know what Amritsari food is all about.

    Langar Ka Prasad

When in Amritsar, the Golden Temple is the first place you should head to. First, the blessings and then the prasad is a must here. The best time to visit is in the morning when the Guru Granth Sahib is brought to the inner sanctum. After offering your prayers, you can also head to the langar. It is also the largest free kitchen in the world!

    All India Famous Amritsari Kulcha

Located beside the Golden Temple and the Wagah Border, the All India Famous is where you get butter drenched, potato and cauliflower stuffed kulcha. This place is very old and truly famous and it is no joke. Come here for lunch and enjoy it with chana masala, sliced onions, and tamarind chutney. Heads up! They run out of kulchas by 2 pm!

    Surjit Food Plaza

This place serves amazing kebabs. It has been there on Lawrence Road for more than seventy years. What you must have here are shammi Kebab and mutton tikka. What is different here? They are cooked in a very different style. The tikkas are first cooked in tandoor, then sautéed with ghee on the tawa and has a secret masala handed down over the generations.

The Beera Chicken House at Majitha Road does not have those traditional red or charred tandoori chicken. They serve a whole chicken, marinated in spices and roasted. Their recipe has been there since 1972!

    Ahuja Milk Bhandar

If in Amritsar, you have to treat your senses to a glass of lassi. Head to Ahuja Milk Bhandar, which is located at Dhab Katikan. Their lassi is so thick that you need a spoon.

They have heavenly fruit cream and kulfa. Kulfa is the Amritsari version of kulfi, which is like an ice-cream with noodles like falooda. The quantity is huge here so you can even share.
