The Tejas Express, India’s first privately operated train run by IRCTC, is set to revolutionise rail travel. Recently inaugurated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the train promises a faster and more comfortable journey between Lucknow and New Delhi. Despite facing several challenges, the train is ready to begin commercial operations, bringing convenience and luxury to passengers on one of the busiest routes in India.
The Tejas Express is designed with modernity and passenger comfort at its core. As per the Ministry of Railways, the train is equipped with the following key features:
Passengers can enjoy a range of amenities, including high-quality food and beverages, infotainment services, and clean drinking water. Each coach is equipped with an RO water filter, and complimentary tea and coffee vending machines are available. Meals, which include breakfast, snacks, evening tea, and dinner, are served via trolleys, similar to airline service. As per the Ministry of Railways, food charges are included at the time of ticket booking, ensuring a smooth travel experience without additional hassles.
Tejas Express tickets can only be reserved online through the IRCTC website (www.irctc.co.in) or the" IRCTC Rail Connect" app. There will be no ticket sales at railway counters. Passengers can also book through IRCTC’s authorised agents and online travel partners, including Paytm, Ixigo, and Make My Trip.

The Tejas Express also offers a Foreign Tourist Quota of 5 seats in an Executive Chair Car and 50 seats in AC Chair Car for international travellers. As per the Ministry of Railways, all passengers travelling on IRCTC trains, including the Tejas Express, are provided with rail travel insurance up to Rs. 25 lakh at no additional cost.
The fares for the Tejas Express vary by class and route:
For any delays exceeding one hour, passengers will be compensated with Rs. 100, and Rs. 250 for delays over two hours.
As per the Ministry of Railways, the Tejas Express operates between Lucknow and New Delhi, cutting down travel time to just 6 hours and 15 minutes, faster than the Swarn Shatabdi. The train runs six days a week (except Tuesdays) with scheduled stops at Kanpur Central and Ghaziabad.
In addition to the Lucknow-New Delhi route, IRCTC also operates a Tejas Express between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, with a schedule similar to the Lucknow-Delhi route. This train runs six days a week (except Thursdays).
The Tejas Express is more than just a fast mode of transport; it offers a comfortable and convenient travel experience. With modern amenities, timely services, and a focus on passenger comfort, this train aims to become a preferred choice for those travelling between major cities in India.
