5 Quick Breakfast Ideas That Need No Cooking

Mornings are often a bit of a scramble, and if you haven’t got access to a hob, or  just can’t be bothered to turn one on, it’s tempting to just skip breakfast entirely. But you don't need a stove to get a decent start to the day. You can whip up plenty of energising, healthy meals in minutes using simple bits and bobs already sitting in your kitchen.

5 Quick Breakfast Ideas That Need No Cooking

Whether you’re in a rush or just feeling a bit lazy, these five no-cook recipes will keep you full until lunch without a frying pan in sight.

Classic Fruit and Yoghurt Bowl

This is probably the easiest way to feel like you’ve actually got your life together before 9:00 am. It’s fresh, filling, and takes about two minutes to assemble.

  • Spoon a generous amount of yoghurt into a bowl to create your base.
  • Chop up whatever fruit you have, bananas, apples, or a handful of berries work perfectly.
  • Drizzle over a bit of honey for sweetness.
  • Toss on some nuts or seeds for a bit of crunch and extra flavour.

Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich

When you need something substantial that feels like a treat, this is the go-to. It’s a solid mix of protein and carbs to keep you going.

  • Grab two slices of bread and spread a thick layer of peanut butter on one (or both, if you’re feeling brave).
  • Slice a banana into thin rounds and layer them over the peanut butter.
  • Pop the other slice of bread on top, press it down, and cut it in half.
  • Eat it straight away for a quick, fuss-free meal.

Moong Sprout Salad

If you prefer a savoury start, a sprout salad is brilliant. It’s crunchy, fresh, and surprisingly filling.

  • Start with a bowl of fresh moong sprouts.
  • Finely dice some onions and tomatoes and mix them in for a bit of texture.
  • Squeeze over plenty of fresh lemon juice to brighten everything up.
  • Add a pinch of salt and whatever mild spices you fancy.
  • Give it a good stir and dig in immediately.

Soft Soaked Poha

Poha (flattened rice) is a fantastic pantry staple because it softens up just by being in water, so you don't need any heat at all.

  • Rinse the poha and let it soak in water for a minute or two until it’s soft but still has a bit of bite (you don’t want it turning to mush).
  • Drain it well and let it sit for a moment.
  • Stir in some chopped onions and crunchy peanuts.
  • Season with salt, a squeeze of lemon, and some fresh curry leaves for an authentic taste.
  • Mix it all for a light yet satisfying breakfast.

Chia Pudding

This one requires a tiny bit of forward-thinking, but the payoff is worth it. It’s like having dessert for breakfast, only much healthier.

  • Mix your chia seeds and milk in a bowl or a jar, stirring well so they don’t clump together.
  • Leave the mixture in the fridge for a few hours (or ideally overnight) until it thickens into a pudding.
  • Stir in a bit of honey or your favourite sweetener to taste.
  • Top it off with some fresh fruit before you tuck in.
