Amarnath Yatra 2026: How To Register, Key Dates, Eligibility, and Route Guides for Pilgrims

If you’ve been waiting for the chance to stand before the holy cave in the Himalayas, the wait is almost over. The Amarnath Yatra is easily one of the most intense and rewarding spiritual journeys in India, and the 2026 season is officially on the horizon. This year, the pilgrimage runs from July 3, 2026 to August 9, 2026, giving devotees a 38-day window to complete the trek.

The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) oversees the whole operation, and they don't mess about when it comes to rules. If you want to be part of it, you’ll need to have your paperwork ready by 15 April 2026, which is when the registration gates officially open.

Amarnath Yatra 2026 Registration: Online and App Options

Most people find it easiest to sort their permits from the comfort of their sofa. You can hop onto the official SASB website or download the ‘Shri Amarnathji Yatra’ mobile app once April 15, 2026, rolls around.

The process is fairly straightforward, but you’ll need to pass an OTP (One-Time Password) verification using your mobile number and email address. You also can't just sign up and go; you must upload a scanned copy of your Compulsory Health Certificate (CHC). Crucially, this certificate must be issued on or after April 8, 2026. You'll also need a clear, passport-sized photo to finish the job.

Amarnath Yatra 2026 Offline Registration: Designated Bank Branches

If you prefer doing things in person, you can visit selected bank branches across the country starting from April 15, 2026. These spots operate on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't leave it until the last minute.

You’ll need to bring your CHC (signed by an authorised doctor) and a valid form of identity, such as your [Aadhaar Redacted] card. The bank will use an eKYC system to verify your biometrics on the spot. Currently, the registration fee is a very reasonable ₹150 per person.

Amarnath Yatra 2026: Mandatory RFID Cards for All Pilgrims

This is a big one: you cannot get past the security gates at Domail or Chandanwari without an RFID card. Once you’ve registered, you have to collect this card from specific centres in Jammu and Kashmir. The authorities use these to keep track of everyone on the mountain for safety and security. No card means no entry, period.

Amarnath Yatra 2026: Eligibility Criteria and Vital Health Requirements

Because of the high altitude and the physical toll of the trek, the SASB has strict age limits. You must be between 13 and 70 years old to register. If you’re under 13 or over 70, you unfortunately won't be allowed to participate.

There’s also a rule for expectant mothers: women who are more than six weeks pregnant are not permitted to undertake the Yatra. As for the health certificate, make sure the doctor or clinic you visit is actually on the authorised list found on the SASB website; otherwise, your registration will be rejected.

Amarnath Yatra 2026 Routes

You’ve got two main choices for the trek, and they offer very different experiences:

  • The Pahalgam Route: This is the traditional path. It’s a 46-kilometre trek (one way) that usually takes a few days. Most pilgrims prefer this because the climb is more gradual, which helps your body adjust to the thin air.
  • The Baltal Route: If you’re short on time and high on stamina, this 14-kilometre trek is much quicker but significantly steeper.

If walking isn't an option for you, there are helicopter services available from both Pahalgam and Baltal that fly to Panchtarni, making the shrine much more accessible.

Amarnath Yatra 2026: Safety, Facilities, and Weather Warnings

The weather in the mountains is famously fickle. One minute it's sunny, and the next you're in a freezing downpour. You’ll find tents and lodging houses at various camps along the way, but you should still come prepared.

Pack heavy woollens, a proper raincoat, and sturdy boots. Beyond the gear, make sure you start some physical training a few weeks before you go. Building up your stamina will make the difference between a miserable struggle and a life-changing spiritual experience. Stay safe, follow the official SOPs, and keep your RFID card handy at all times!
