We have all heard of SPF playing an important part in our beauty regime. While SPF may be generally used for the face and body, there’s yet another body part that requires the same attention and care when it comes to the harmful effects of UV rays.
When your skin is exposed to harmful UV rays, it can lead to discoloration, signs of premature aging, and a higher risk of developing skin cancer. For this very reason, it is important to use sunscreen over your face and body before you step out of the house.
What Is A Hair Sunscreen?
The idea of applying sunscreen on your hair and scalp is weird but is most definitely a must to do! According to a 2019 study by PubMed Central, UV rays can damage hair just like the skin, and can even damage the hair follicle.
Using sunscreen on your hair and scalp is as important as the face and body sunscreen application. Just like the skin on the rest of your body, the skin on the scalp can burn in the sun, which can lead to a higher risk of skin cancer.
The scalp under all the hair is also our skin, and it requires an equal amount of attention as compared to the rest of our body.

Powders are a lightweight way to get sun protection on your hair and scalp without weighing down your do. They can soak up the excess oil and add a bit of volume.
Sprays are the next lightest product after powders. They can be a great way to add moisture, luster, and bounce.
Creams And Lotions
Creams and lotions are the heaviest options out of all the types. These are best if you’re planning on going for a dip. They provide a thick layer of protection that won’t wash out easily in water.
