You have been pampering your skin, indulging in a lot of skincare but you see no results. Why? To achieve that spotless, glowing skin, we constantly keep trying new products, beauty treatments, and techniques thinking they would do some miracle. All this while we do a lot of blunders that end up damaging our skin. Here are some common skincare mistakes you have been making.

Ignoring Acne

How often teenagers suffering from acne are told, “don’t worry, you will grow out of it.” This is the wrong advice and a misconception. Acne can spread and cause permanent scarring. Also, acne can be controlled if appropriate measures are taken in good time, by following a professional skincare routine that helps to reduce oiliness and control the condition with the right products.

Scrubbing On Skin With Pimples, Acne, Rashes

Women who have pimples, acne, or rashes should avoid using scrubs on their face. Scrubs should not be used on dry, dehydrated and sensitive skin as they can deplete the skin of both oil and moisture. Scrubbing can also peel off the skin if it is too dry.

Not Cleansing Skin At Night

Neglecting to cleanse the skin at night is one of the worst mistakes you can do. The repairing, renewing, and restoring work of the skin cells takes place at night and the skin should be free from make-up, pollutants, and other impurities. You should cleanse your face before going to bed, use a face cleanser according to your skin type.

Wiping Off Cream From Face With Dry Cotton Or Towel

Using dry cotton wool or towel absorbs moisture from your skin and can lead to dryness. You should use moist cotton wool to wipe off creams from your face after cleansing or massaging. Moist cotton wool has already absorbed water. It can't absorb anything more which is why it doesn't deplete the skin of moisture.

Washing Oily Skin With Soap And Water

A lot of women with oily skin have a habit of washing face with soap and water to reduce the oiliness on the skin. However, most soaps are alkaline in nature and too much soap-and-water washing can disrupt the normal acid-alkaline (pH) balance of the skin and leave the skin predisposed to pimples and acne.

Getting Facial Done With Oily Creams

If you have oily or combination skin and you go to the salon for a facial then you should not get the massage done with oily creams. These creams activate the oil glands in your skin and lead to clogged pores, pimples, and acne.

Using Massage Creams And Oily Moisturisers

If you have normal to oily skin, the skincare routine should include cleansing, exfoliation, toning, mask and protection. Avoid massaging with creams and the use of oily moisturisers. Oil-free products should be used.

Using Masks Around Eyes And Lips

Masks should not be applied to the delicate skin under the eyes. While applying a mask, avoid lips and the skin around eyes. The skin in these areas is thin and delicate. It can get pulled or stretched easily. These areas don't have oil glands. A seaweed mask with a watery consistency is better for the area around your eyes.

Not Using The Right Sunscreen

You should be using a broad-spectrum sunscreen. Always apply sunscreen before using your foundation. Wait for it to absorb and then apply the foundation.

Popping Blackheads With Nails

It’s surprising how many women think that blackheads are collections of dirt in the pores. They pinch them with the nails or wash the face several times a day. This can infect your skin and can also lead to acne. Blackheads are caused by the clogging of the pores. When the tip gets exposed, it gets oxidized and turns black. Hence the name blackheads.

Make sure you keep these common mistakes in mind while taking care of your skin and avoid these as much as you can.
