There are so many myths surrounding the skin and the hair that one wonders which one should be believed and which is false.

Beauty expert Shahnaz Husain says that, “A very common belief is that plucking a white hair will encourage more white hair growing in its place and will, in fact, start turning the black hair into white. In other words, the hair will soon turn grey. I feel that this is a myth. Actually, the exact cause of greying is not really known.”

Causes Of Grey Hair

Here are some of the causes of greying of hair as believed by different doctors.

Hereditary

White hair can be hereditary. Some doctors feel that the cause may lie in our genes, or in our immune system. You need to analyse whether your ancestors had white hair or not.

Deficiency Of Vitamins & Minerals

Others believe that deficiency of Vitamins B12, C and E, as well as minerals like zinc and copper in the body can turn the hair white.

We all know that the hair that has turned white will not become dark again, except by dyeing or colouring. This does not mean that we can continue to pluck out white hair.

Beauty expert Shahnaz Husain says, “it is better not the pluck out white hair by the roots, as doing this repeatedly can injure and cause trauma to the follicle, which can finally stop growing hair. So, it is better to cut the white hair, instead of plucking it out.”

“If you pluck your white hair, another white hair will grow in its place. This is because melanin (the pigment cells which give the hair its colour) is no longer reaching the hair follicle. So, another white hair will grow in the follicle,” she adds.
