The appearance of Madelyn Stillwell, manifesting as a sort of twisted angel, convinced him that he is the Second Coming. Naturally, Homelander’s ego didn’t need much prodding to accept this. Now, his singular focus is tracking down a vial of V1 to secure the eternal life he believes he deserves.

The tension at home has also reached a bloody breaking point. In the last episode, Ryan finally stood up to his father, questioning the truth about his mother’s conception. Homelander’s response was a lie, and when Ryan didn’t buy it, the confrontation turned into a visceral, brutal beating. It was a harrowing moment that mirrored the infamous Omni-Man and Mark brawl from Invincible.

Just when things couldn't get more volatile, Stan Edgar sauntered back into Vought International. Homelander greeted his old foe with a hug rather than a laser blast, claiming they have plenty to discuss. What to Expect in The Boys Season 5 Episode 4

The trailer hints at a team-up that seemed impossible just a week ago: Soldier Boy appears to be helping Homelander in his quest for immortality. While their relationship has been defined by hatred, a recent heart-to-heart with Firecracker might have shifted Soldier Boy’s perspective. Perhaps he feels a flicker of pity for his son? Or maybe he's just trying to steer Homelander away from his creepier impulses. Knowing this show, however, a betrayal is almost certainly on the cards. Homelander doesn't share power, or eternity, with anyone.

We also need to keep a very close eye on Stan Edgar. During his chat with Mother’s Milk, Edgar made it clear that he views everyone as a piece on a chessboard. MM quickly realised that Edgar’s ‘help’ isn't out of the goodness of his heart; he wants Vought International back.
