Stranger Things Season 5 Ending Explained: After a long wait, the beloved sci-fi show, ‘Stranger Things’, has come to an end. The series aired its two-hour-long finale, and fans bid farewell to their favourite Hawkin crew. This show has gained many fans over the years and has become one of the longest-running shows on Netflix. It all started back in 2016 and has finally come to an end with 2026 beginning. This fifth and final season was released in three different parts, and the season finale aired yesterday. Stranger Things Season 5 Ending Explained

The season five finale opens up with the Hawkin crew plotting their plan to get rid of Vecna and the Mind-Flayer once and for all. The group divides themselves in groups to tackle everything at once. Eleven, Kali and Max team up to go inside Vecna’s mind. We see Hopper and Murray prepare explosives to wipe out the Upside Down completely. The other team has the rest of the members who are racing through the Abyss to rescue kidnapped kids, including Mike’s younger sister, Holly. 

With the stakes running high, everyone needs to finish their task quickly, with efficiency being a priority. While a lot of characters come unscathed, tragedy strikes at the Hawkin lab, and Kali is killed during a military ambush by Lieutenant Akers.

With the battle further escalating, Vecan is now united and fully merged with the Mind-Flayer. They now form a terrifying spider-like monster that embodies everything the group has been fighting since the very first season back in 2016. With people losing hope, Will shines as the light by using his lingering connection to Henry to briefly control Vecna from the inside. The audience is reminded that Will has always been connected to the Upside Down, and he remains the central character to the story’s end.

Eleven suddenly arrives from the Abyss and leads the final attack. The group works together to weaken the hive mind, leaving an opening for Elven to strike her final move. In a new turn of events, we get to see Joyce directly confront Vecna and decapitate him, ending his reign for good. Holly and the other kidnapped children are rescued. Next, Hopper and Murray trigger the explosives that wipe out the entire Upside Down.

We see the world collapsing, and Eleven staying back. It appears that Eleven is sacrificing herself, but her death remains a mystery to many, leaving the viewers devastated.

The show fast forwards to 18 months, and we see Hawkins slowly getting rebuilt with officials blaming the destruction on an earthquake. Steve is now coaching Little League, Dustin becomes his school’s valedictorian, and Robin returns to radio. Joyce and Hopper take the next step in their relationship by getting engaged. The Hawlins crew graduates from high school.

Eleven’s death is left open to interpretation for the audience. Mike believes that Eleven may have survived due to Kali’s final illusion, choosing to believe she has escaped and is living somewhere far away. It’s a theory that the rest of the group is left to believe.
