House Of The Dragon Season 3 Release Date: When and Where To Watch The Games Of Thrones Prequel Series

Fans have been hanging on for any scrap of news, and now HBO has finally put a firm date on the calendar for ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 3. Along with a fresh teaser that’s already doing the rounds, the streaming platform shared the specific details we’ve all been waiting for.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Release Date and Episode Schedule

According to a post on the official HBO Max Instagram, the third season will premiere on June 21, 2026, at 9 pm ET.

If you were hoping for a long, drawn-out season, keep in mind that this run will consist of eight episodes. They’ll be dropping weekly, which means the season finale is currently slated for August 9, 2026, as noted by Variety.

To go along with the date, we’ve also had our first real look at what’s coming next. The new teaser doesn't hold back on the drama, with the producers adding a cryptic note, ‘There will be no doubt who the gods have chosen to rule.’

The show continues to draw from George RR Martin’s ‘Fire and Blood’, set roughly 200 years before we ever met the Starks or Lannisters in ‘Game of Thrones’. It centres on the brutal Targaryen civil war, the ‘Dance of the Dragons’, which effectively tore the family (and the sky) apart.

House of the Dragon Season 3 Cast and Creators

Most of the heavy hitters are returning to the screen. You can expect to see Matt Smith, Emma D'Arcy, and Olivia Cooke leading the pack again, alongside Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney.

Behind the scenes, Ryan Condal and George R.R. Martin are still the driving forces as co-creators and executive producers. Condal is also staying on as the showrunner to keep the story on track.

Game of Thrones Spin-Offs and Prequels

‘House of the Dragon’ is just one piece of the puzzle for Warner Bros as they continue to build out the ‘Game of Thrones’ universe. They are already working on several other projects, including a second season of ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’, a separate prequel series that arrived earlier this year.

There is also plenty of chatter about a prequel film centred on Aegon’s Conquest, which is reportedly in the early stages of development. It looks like we won’t be leaving Westeros any time soon.
